Recently, the world’s largest lighting manufacturer, Philips announced that due to the energy-saving consciousness, it drives the great and continuous demand of LED lighting in Japan’s offices and other places, which makes Philips decide to march into Japanese office and home LED lighting market. According to Philips, at present, through Japanese legal representative, Philips Electronics Japan, it has started to sell a 22W straight LED by taking place of fluorescent tube.
The power consumption of Philips LED bulb can be reduced 40%-50% by comparing with the former fluorescent tube, and it prices as 10 thousand yen or so, which has included its installation costs. Philips said, it planned to take 10% of the Japan office LED lighting market within this year.
Philips further pointed out that besides office LED lighting bulbs, it plans to sell 5 kinds of home LED bulbs by the end of September. The maximum power consumption can be reduced by 80% compared with incandescent bulbs. Among these 5 kinds of bulbs, 5W products sell for 2 thousand yen or so, while 9W products price as 3 thousand yen around. Right now, manufacturers who have already entered Japanese LED bulb market contain Panasonic, Toshiba and Sharp.
After Japan 311 earthquake, because of the power rationing measures, it aroused Japanese consumers’ energy-saving awareness, which further brings in the great demand of LED bulbs. According to a survey released by GfKJapan, in June 2011, the total Japanese sales of LED bulbs shares 43.5% of the whole bulbs (including incandescent bulbs, bulb-type fluorescent tubes, LED bulbs) market, better than incandescent bulbs which take 38.2% of the market. Additionally, it is the first time for the sales of LED bulbs to surpass incandescent bulbs’ sales.
